Parents and potential Managers/Coaches: 

Please take the time to read this note as some things have changed for the upcoming season. We believe that these changes will benefit your baseball players and the Ridgefield Little League experience.

This year, in an effort to make things easier for parents and players, we will be adopting a strategy currently in use by a number of surrounding towns that have found it to be successful. We will have ONE evaluation day FOR ALLPLAYERS (again, AA-Majors for the more competitive Little League 8s and up) on Saturday, March 2nd. The results of these evaluations will determine the placement of each athlete in the division they are best suited for.  We’re confident that this is the best way to identify the appropriate division for each player, and to set them up for the most fun and successful season possible. Additionally, streamlining the evaluation and league placement process should serve to accomplish the following: 

1.     Ensure that there is greater parity in the formation of the teams and the level of on-field competition; 

2.     Allow our athletes to play at the right level with an eye on safety and the encouragement of proper development; and

3.     Do our best to make sure that each athlete will be challenged appropriately and will have fun!

Each athlete will go through the same drills and be evaluated on the same objective scale by independent evaluators - this is also new. No one with direct ties to a particular player will be evaluating the athletes. How each player is evaluated will determine their placement into AA, AAA, or Majors. Please note: ALL Little League 12s will be on a Majors team. The divisions from AA and up have typically utilized a draft system to create the teams. While the Majors division will still employ a Draft system, all AA and AAA teams will now be created internally, without a draft, to ensure the greatest parity possible. Managers/Coaches (AA-Majors) can and should still attend the evaluations and take notes, but the Managers/Coaches of AA/AAA will not be part of team building. You will be assigned a team shortly thereafter. 

While we understand that this is a significant change from years past,  we can assure you that the RLL Board only came to this decision after significant and thoughtful deliberation along with feedback from RLL parents. While we appreciate that this change will result in an unfamiliar process, this decision was ultimately made with our Little League players in mind. Our guiding principles inspire us to provide a safe, rich, rewarding, and FUN experience for the kids.
